After my experience at the Majestic properties in Punta Cana last summer (read that full review here), I was excited to explore Majestic Elegance in Costa Mujeres. One of the top questions I get asked is “which property is better?” and I can say, without a doubt, that Costa Mujeres takes the cake. Better service, newer facilities and MUCH better food. The resort has 7 restaurants to choose from including a late-night menu up until 2am. The food was really good. Although we were only there for a short period of time, we tried to eat at as many restaurants as possible. One of the benefits of staying at an all-inclusive resort (one that offers unlimited a la carte meals, anyway) is that if you don’t like the food at one of the restaurants, you can just try out something else! I was pleasantly surprised as the food at the Majestic resorts in Punta Cana is, well, severely lacking. Definitely not the case here. There are two sections of the resort–the family friendly and adults only. We were also part of the preferred club which gave us 24/7 access to a lounge with food and drinks.
We had the Elegance Club Jr. Suite with Outdoor Jacuzzi, and I was impressed. The room was spacious, clean and included amenities such as an in-room jacuzzi, rain shower, double sinks, outdoor jacuzzi with day bed, couch, comfortable beds, fully stocked mini-bar, bottle of champagne, bottle of tequila, snacks, slippers. It had a modern, sleek feel. I would say the only negative I have to add is that where we were located in the building, there was loud noise from the night program. This ended promptly at 10pm so it wasn’t horrible but something to consider if you’d like a quieter experience. You may also want to consider a different room type if you’d like some more privacy as there wasn’t a separate “bathroom”. There was a door to the toilet and a door to the shower but when you step out, you’re right in the main room.
Although I didn’t have the opportunity to experience the spa on this trip, my friend Andrea enjoyed the hydrotherapy circuit and a full body massage. Here is what she had to say: “It wasn’t the nicest spa I’ve been to, but also, the massage was subpar. I’ve had a way better experience at home especially for the price. The cave is really cool. I liked it there. I think just experiencing the hydrotherapy circuit would have been just fine. I would say if you were a person who gets frequent massages at spas, you may not want to get one here. BUT the staff was SOOO nice and accommodating”.
WOW! The beach was HUGE with the powderiest sand I’ve ever felt. It was completely walkable on both sides for MILES. There was some seaweed, but they cleaned it up daily and it wasn’t actually IN the water but moreso on the sand. If you’re reading this and have done any research on all-inclusives in the area, you’ll probably know that sargassum is a major issue in the area, but it didn’t seem to be here. The water was turquoise and felt cool. There were plenty of XXX and beach chairs and the waiters were extremely attentive. They knew us by name within the first couple of hours.
Drinks were average…nothing to write home about. I would say of all the drinks we tried, the iced salted caramel latte that we got in the lobby/piano bar was the BEST. I’m a huge fan of espresso martinis and the martini in the lobby was the BEST.
I don’t think I could have experienced much more attentive or better service many other places. The workers made an attempt to talk with us, put a smile on their face and do the best they could. Every single person we encountered with friendly and appreciative.
The grounds were clean and beautiful. I did notice some cracks in the pool and drink glasses left around in the mornings but that is about all. And, they were promptly cleaned up after. There are many areas of the resort that were breathtakingly beautiful and I had to stop just to stare and take it all in.
There were plenty of pools. Those that were quiet. Those with a ton of entertainment. TONS of swim up bars. Plenty of chairs and cabanas. Nothing to complain about.
Overall we had an exceptional time and will definitely be coming back for a longer stay!
P.S. We put together a FREE vacation guide for this resort. Food & drinks to try, things to do, etc.
