Sandos Finisterra Review: Budget-Friendly Family All-Inclusive in Cabo San Lucas

katie20152

Every time I visit Los Cabos, I am blown away by the beauty of this destination. I had the opportunity to visit one of my #1 selling resorts in the area--Sandos Finisterra which is a budget & family-friendly all-inclusive resort RIGHT next to the Pacific Ocean AND the Marina in Cabo San Lucas. I brought my mom and youngest (4 year old) and we all had a really great time!

Food: 8/10

The food was good--exactly what I would expect for Mexico. We were nervous that there were only 4 options but always felt like there was something new to try. The resort only has one breakfast option for us common-folk (aka those of us who don't want to buy into an expensive timeshare) which is the buffet. It was always STOCKED with all the "breakfast essentials" including a made-to-order omelet station and had incredible views of the Marina. Although there were only 4 dinner options, they were all wonderful and the service was EXCEPTIONAL.

Drinks: 5/10

A 5/10 isn't 50%, when I rate these, it just means that it is "average". I feel like I can't say anything negative because there wasn't. BUTT...there wasn't anything extraordinary either.

Spa: 5/10

I had a chance to enjoy the hydrotherapy circuit and a short reflexology massage. I was pleased with the experience. The ambiance at the spa was delightful. I will say some of the negative I experienced was that all of the treatment rooms are "open" which means at the top, they're not completely enclosed, so I could hear other people talking to their therapists/coughing, etc. It was a bit odd.

Easy to access: 8/10

This resort is about a 45-minute drive from San Jose del Cabo (SJD) airport. It was a scenic drive going past mountains and the ocean!

Service: 10/10

The service was excellent! Every single staff member was friendly. I was truly blown away by the hospitality at this resort. It was the best of anywhere I've ever stayed.

Beach: 5/10

The beach in front of this resort was MEGA. HUGE. Tons of sand and sea. Keep in mind the beach is NOT swimmable in front of this resort. Most of the beaches in Cabo are not swimmable due to strong undertows and currents and this resort was no exception. A HUGE selling point of this place is that you can see humpback whales RIGHT in front of the place all day long. You know it's a special place when all the "whale watching" boat tours stop right in front of the resort. I have severe motion sickness, so being able to stay on land while watching these incredible creatures was a big selling point.

Pools: 5/10

These pools were ok! There are 4 total pools--one of them was the adults-only pool with a swim up bar, a quiet pool and a lively pool down by the ocean. The Elite Club pool was overlooking the marina. They seemed a little dirty, but I did see them checking the levels on a daily basis. They were also heated which, even though we were in Mexico, was great because the high was only 73!

Entertainment: N/A

We didn't experience any entertainment at the resort--we opted to go to bed early most nights!

Grounds: 8/10

The grounds were beautiful! They were all cacti and sand and every morning the workers were out watering the plants. Side note: the Pacific side of Mexico is arid (think desert) and isn't that lush, tropical foilage that you would experience if you were on the gulf side. It is so beautiful in its own way.

Rooms: 7/10

We were put up in a Finisterra Junior Suite which was freshly remodeled. I really liked the decor and cleanliness. The resort has an eco-friendly focus so there was a huge 5-gallon jug of water (I LOVED this) and a working safe as well as a daily-stocked mini-fridge. We had two queen sized beds with a sunken living room and a view of, err, nothing. BUT I'm not complaining. It was clean, pleasant and quiet which is worth noting.

This resort exceeded my expectations in so many ways. If you're looking for a resort with charm, character and in excellent proximity to the marina (with a splash of whale on the side), then it may be the place for you!
